ARTIST STATEMENT:
"My body of work presents imagined spaces. In my paintings, these imaginary landscapes are comprised of familiar elements taken from archives, films, books, and referential artistic sources from a variety of cultures and historical periods, both canonical and mundane. These compositions are comments on the nature of memories: fleeting, fragmented, slowly fading into the realm of fiction. Trees, wires, lakes, and infrastructures recur as motifs across my paintings to explore the accumulated histories and anxieties of seemingly banal places. When in the process of painting, I situated myself between graphic clarity and painterly techniques, employing abstraction painting techniques in expressionist and figurative compositions. Even though the composition can sometimes be simple: a sky, a lake, a land area, the painterly techniques can make the overall work visually complex. "
